Large Black Painted Antique French Marble Top Commode Chest of Drawers.
Stunning Antique French Commode with marble top. Henri II style although I doubt it is quite as old as that, probably 1800's. Beautiful decoration throughout. It can be used with or without the mirror as shown in the photos. Not sure of the wood, it looked like oak but the inside of the drawers looks different and the back is pine. Drawers are all sound, top drawer is a little tight, probably because of the weight of the marble top. Please note marble top was completely broken and has been glued to the top of the Commode and all cracks have been filled with a tonally matching filler. This should only have implications if you had plans to turn this into a sink unit as the hole for the sink would need to be cut through the marble and chest top altogether which might make it difficult. Some foxing on the bevelled mirror and some old woodworm holes on the decorative frame of the mirror. The woodworm has long since gone but has been treated as a matter of course.
Hand painted in Annie Sloan 'Graphite'. The paint finish is distressed and waxed with clear and black wax to give a durable finish.
Height: 211cm including mirror, 95cm without mirror.
